No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Thursday, 19. November 2009
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
