Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players around the world. While participating in internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
