Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
