Omaha Hi Lo: Fundamental Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A round of wagering follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of betting ensues. Once all the players have either called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. Another round of betting ensues and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to put together the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where some entrants can get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to use exactly three cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same notion in almost every poker game.
A low hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the whole pot.
Although it seems complex at first, following a couple of rounds you will be able to get the base subtleties of the game easily enough.
