Internet High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Tuesday, 8. October 2019
Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve closing table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While playing net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
