Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
