Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
