Internet poker has become globally famous recently, with televised competitions and celebrity poker game shows. The games universal appeal, though, stretches back in fact a bit further than its TV ratings. Over the years numerous variations on the first poker game have been created, including a few games that are not in reality poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of these games. Despite the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely affiliated with blackjack than long-standing poker, in that the gamblers wager against the house instead of each other. The winning hands, are the traditional poker hands. There is no bluffing or other kinds of deceptiveness. In Caribbean stud poker, you are required to ante up just before the croupier announcing "No further bets." At that instance, both you and the dealer and of course all of the other gamblers receive 5 cards. After you have observed your hand and the bank’s first card, you have to in turn make a call wager or surrender. The call wager’s amount is on same level to your beginning wager, which means that the stakes will have increased two fold. Surrendering means that your ante goes directly to the casino. After the bet comes the showdown. If the casino does not have ace/king or better, your wager is returned, with an amount on par with the initial bet. If the house does have ace/king or greater, you succeed if your hand defeats the casino’s hand. The bank pays cash even with your ante and fixed expectations on your call wager. These odds are:

  • Equal for a pair or high card
  • 2-1 for two pairs
  • three to one for three of a kind
  • 4-1 for a straight
  • 5-1 for a flush
  • 7-1 for a full house
  • 20-1 for a 4 of a kind
  • 50-1 for a straight flush
  • one hundred to one for a royal flush
