Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he enjoyed participating in numerous card games at a young age. He found himself getting really aggressive in these particular card games as he was playing his dad. After graduating from secondary school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a bit and headed to New York to participate in some serious chess. He made an effort to get more rest and focus more on poker.

The definite improvement in his game began when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would often challenge one another. Howard was able to access a few of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would hone his cunning thinking techniques. Howard used these strategic ideas in the game of NL Texas Holdem.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke master poker. She was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie to move out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker world ever. Howard Lederer moved to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the successive 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
