Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
