Omaha Hi Lo: Fundamental Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has grown in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha/8 begins just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting ensues in which players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. One more round of betting happens. After all the players have in turn called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a number of entrants often get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must use precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same notion in almost every poker game.
The low hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand available, the higher hand takes the complete pot.
Although it seems complicated initially, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the base subtleties of play easily enough. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better offers an amazing range of betting possibilities and seeing that you have numerous players battling for the high, as well as a few trying for the low hand. If you prefer a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha/8.
