Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
