Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the final table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best enthusiasts in the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amt.. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world might be guys you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player.
