Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
